Many of our students who have chosen to compete in national and international ballet competitions, and dance competitions, such as the Youth America Grand Prix, have distinguished themselves with top honors and awards at these competitions. We feel competition is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn different variations, strengthen technique, perform on a stage, and meet new friends in the ballet community. For younger dancers, competitions expose them to the fun of stage lights, costumes, make-up and prizes. The skills and discipline learned through competing can be carried on to other aspects of the dancer’s life, making them a more focused and mature adult. Importantly, it isn’t just about performing on stage in front of an audience, but having fun and being friendly with fellow competitors. For older dance students, ballet competitions can mean scholarships to prestigious schools, prize money or even job prospects.
